The Venerable
Bede (673-735): called the "Father of English history."
He was a Christian monk who spent his life at the monasteries of Wearmouth
and Jarrow where he devoted himself to scholarship. He is best remembered
for his classic work The Ecclesiastical History of the English People..
Today visitors can visit Bede's
World an excellent museum in Northumbria, England. There are also

Recently many of his books have been translated into English by members
